Ireland Residence

This mountain home is located in a private community in the Blue Ridge Mountains between North Carolina and Virginia. The home is an understated cabin with a much larger guest house for family and friends separated by a large, terraced, perennial flower garden. The Owner asked for help in giving this garden 'full of chaos', a little order. First, TRGD drew a layout of the garden and took inventory of all the plants and noted their locations and colors. Then they redesigned the existing space by placing plants of the same color in groups, starting at the front of each terrace with the shortest and moving toward the back with the tallest. The result was a garden of many colors and species of perennials, with very orderly and systematic control. Since the client loved to cut flowers for arrangements, it became very easy to select the size, texture and color of her flowers by simply walking down the pathways along each terrace. In 2005 this garden was submitted to the Smithsonian Museum's Garden Collection.
