Huie Residence

The Huie's had a beautiful ornate brick home that had been compromised by an unsightly brick carriage house made with a completely different brick color just a short distance from the side kitchen. TRGD corrected this by planting and growing Boston Ivy up the side of the carriage house and then added strategically placed Emerald Arborvitae to help soften this out-building and bring it down in scale. Next they installed limestone around the carriage house to serve as a backdrop for a large, planted urn. And this was just the beginning. The yard was formed by a tremendous slope from the back property line toward the parking court and the Owner wanted to install a cocktail pool at the rear of the home. So they designed a retaining wall with brick columns and matching limestone caps that matched the limestone on the main house. Atop the columns were placed copper lighting fixture with gas flame lights. Then they placed a second, short wall closer to the back of the property line to create a small sitting courtyard. Finally a brick privacy wall was designed with a wall-hanging fountain that spilled out into a basin. With additional annuals and perennials planted all around the pool and turf area, a truly romantic and cozy space was made.
